Mung Bean Kelp And Rue Herb Sweet Soup
Mung Bean, Kelp and Rue Herb Sweet Soup is a traditional Cantonese sweet soup. Sometimes its made without the kelp but mung bean and rue herb are always together. The strong aroma of the rue herb balances the mild flavour of the mung beans. People say that rue herb to mung bean is like dry mandarin peel to red bean or tong choy to preserved bean curd.
The mung beans are really the supporting cast in this show. The star is the rue herb or Stink Grass. I was reluctant to smell it at first because of the name. But when I took a whiff of it, I quite liked it! It was a strong scent, but not a bad scent. When its in the soup, the scent is much milder. Unfortunately, rue herb is not readily available at grocery stores here in Vancouver. Luckily for me, my mom grows it in her garden. I found the seeds for sale on Amazon and they are very easy to grow. If you know of someone who has some, you only need a branch/stem, put it in some water to grow some roots and then stick it in the soil. Im going to grow some in my garden too.
My limbs are generally more hot than cold. And so, I love adding some Mung Bean, Kelp and Rue Herb Sweet Soup to vanilla ice cream and grass jelly. I made it with more texture and less broken so that when I put it on ice cream, its not too mushy. In my recipe, Ill show you how to make it very smooth and broken down or soft but not as broken. Either way, Im sure youll find it cooling and refreshing.
Dr Liza Ong Discusses Effect Of Monggo On People W/ Arthritis Or Rheuma
MONGGO Doctor Liza Ramoso-Ong explained why beans are not bad for people with arthritis or rheuma.
It is a common belief that people are suffering from arthritis or rheumatism must not eat beans. Allegedly, beans can trigger the inflammation on the joints.
This wide belief caused a lot of people to shy away from beans. However, do you know that you may be missing a lot of benefits by staying away from it? In fact, it may not be really bad for those with arthritis or rheuma.
In a video, Dr. Liza Ong explained that moderate amount of beans or more commonly called as monggo is not bad for people with arthritis or rheuma. According to the doctor, the purine it contains is not bad for rheuma or arthritis.
Doc Liza also expressed that monggo is good for the heart, the brain, and the body. Here are the other benefits of beans:
- It contains a lot of vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Vitamin B1 or Thiamine, B2 or Riboflavin, B3 or Niacin, B5 or Panthothenic Acid, B6 or Pyridoxine, and B9 or Folic Acid and minerals like iron, manganese, copper, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus.
- It contains anti-oxidants that help fight aging and Vitamin A, B1, B2, and B6 that neutralize free radicals against cancer and Alzheimers Disease.
- It contains isoflavones hormones which are beneficial for women.

Osteoarthritis, which is mainly associated with age, and osteoarthritis caused by weakness, gout due to accumulation of uric acid in joints, or infections caused by infections in joints. So, These foods should not be consumed in rheumatoid arthritis. Eating yogurt has negative effects in the stomach. Meat, canned food also increases the risk of arthritis.
There are omega 3 fatty acids, which reduce acidity, pain and swelling. Vaporous substances such as rice, potatoes, cabbage, radish, beans, gram, urad dal, lemon, guava, curd, tomato, banana, orange should not be consumed. Due to this being included in the diet, patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis are harmed.
How Do Mung Beans Grow Best
When considering planting mungbeans choose paddocks based on: Good soil moisture paddocks with less than 75mm of Plant Available Water will often produce unreliable or unprofitable crops. The most profitable crops are grown on blocks with high stored moisture from long fallow or early season rains.

Boost Immunity And Protect Against Infections And Viruses
Mung bean nutrition contains a range of phytonutrients that are considered antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. In fact, compounds isolated from mung beans are even used to preserve certain foods and reduce spoilage. Their antibacterial properties can help increase immunity and fight harmful bacteria, viruses, colds, rashes, irritations and more. Mung beans promote a healthy balance of bacteria within the digestive tract, which helps with nutrient absorption and immune defense.
A Variety Of Healthful Pantry Staples Fit Within An Arthritis

If you are what you eat, then it goes without saying that diet can affect your healthfor worse or for better. For decades, researchers have looked at diet in relation to health and well being. In particular, they have studied whether foods can impact arthritis treatment. Scientists have thought that dietary factors might trigger certain types of arthritis. Because of this, changing the foods you eat could have a strong impact on arthritis symptom relief.
A diet rich in plant-based foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and beans, as well as fish, is not only great for overall health but can also help manage arthritis symptoms. Things as simple as cherries and almonds or tuna and broccoli can be helpful.
Foods can have powerful impacts on health. Potential benefits of healthful eating include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic effects, strengthening bones, and boosting the immune system.

Determination Of Nitric Oxide
NO produced in RAW264.7 cells supernatant treated with extracts was determined using calorimetric Griess reaction. Same amount of cells density and treatment were performed as in previous MTT assay. To stimulate inducible NO synthase, LPS and IFN-γ were added to the culture media. Both LPS and IFN-γ were used to induce the inflammatory mediators and enzyme involved in inflammation such as COX-2 . After 72 hours, 100μL of cells supernatant was transferred into a new 96-microtitre plate followed by addition of 100μL Griess reagent . The absorbance was taken at 540nm using ELISA Reader . The data was normalized to standard using sodium nitrite and expressed as nitrite concentration .
Where Can People Get Additional Information On Rheumatoid Arthritis
From the 2015 national meeting of the American College of Rheumatology:
- There are many new biologic treatments for rheumatoid arthritis on the near horizon. Many of these are being studied with and without simultaneous methotrexate. Some block chemical messengers and some block specific cell types of inflammation.
- The significant benefit of treating lipid/cholesterol profiles in patients with rheumatoid arthritis to improve long-term risks of stroke and heart attack was emphasized.
- Diets higher in fish, grains, and vegetables decrease the risk of developing RA. The Western diet, defined as including more processed meats, increases the risk. It is not certain whether this is because of a direct anti-inflammatory effect of the fish, grains, and vegetables or because of changes in the natural bacteria in the gut.

Grapefruit and oranges have high amounts of antioxidants to help soothe burning joints. You also get a good dose of vitamin C, which can help limit the wear on your joints, Sandon says. Eating a lot of grapefruit has been known to lower the amount of CRP. You can snack on a tasty clementine, add grapefruit segments to salads, or blend peeled oranges into smoothies.
When it comes to making big changes in your diet, you canât do a little here and a little there and expect it to help, Sandon says. Any changes you make need to be part of a long-term pattern if theyâre going to help relieve your symptoms.
Sprouted Mung Bean Bowl
Since I discovered mung beans about a year ago, Ive been making the same sprouted mung bean bowl at least every other week. It first came about when I just threw the ingredients together looking for a hot healthy meal, willing to sacrifice the flavor, but it turned out so good that I kept making it over and over.
MUNG BEANS ARE VERY NUTRITIOUS AND EASY TO DIGEST
Mung beans have been a staple of Ayurvedic diet and medicine for thousands of years. They are full of high quality plant protein and a number of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. I love this in-depth article from Dr. Axe.
They are known to lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure. Much like my beloved rye, they are rich in magnesium, which we dont get enough of through our regular diet. Magnesium helps with calcium absorption, same calcium that most of us consume in excess. This extra calcium gets deposited along arteries causing inflammation and in the joints causing arthritis.
SPROUTING MAKES BEANS AND GRAINS MORE DIGESTIBLE
Sprouting mung beans makes them even healthier. It reduces anti nutrients, such as phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors. This helps us digest the beans easier and increase nutrient absorption.

Lectins Autoimmune Diseases And Thyroid Health
Lectins can specifically trigger thyroid cells to talk to immune cells, and attract them to the thyroid gland, a similar process to what happens in the pancreas of a person with diabetes . This is considered one of the early steps in the autoimmune destruction of the thyroid.
Lectins have been studied extensively in rheumatoid arthritis , and lectin found in wheat is one of the most common food triggers for RA patients .
Lectins are very toxic to the gut they stick to and peel off the gut protective layer called mucosa, which then causes bad bacteria to grow uncontrollably and many other food particles to pass through the otherwise tight gut barrier . This is one form of leaky gut.
Lectin activity might be a good explanation of why Hashimotos occurs after people have long-term or recurrent infections: lectins block mucosa, which is the natural barrier and protector against bacteria and viruses not only in the intestine, but also in the throat . This creates a prolonged state of inflammation which can re-program the immune system and lead to autoimmune condition.

Can Help Prevent Or Treat Type 2 Diabetes
Strong evidence exists that mung beans nutrition has a significant anti-diabetic effect and can naturally help prevent or treat cases of type 2 diabetes. A 2008 study done by the Institute of Crop Sciences at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences found that when rats were given mung bean supplements, they experienced lowered blood glucose, plasma C-peptide, glucagon, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. At the same time, the rats significantly improved glucose tolerance and increased insulin responsiveness.
When Is Inflammation A Concern
Inflammation is part of your bodys innate immune response. It normally triggers healing and then dissipates with help of the lymphatic system. However, research suggests constantly bombarding your body with the wrong foods can cause immune system dysfunction and chronic inflammation.
Chronic inflammation damages tissues and it can also cause toxins to accumulate in your body. In extreme cases, the body can no longer recognize a foreign attacker and attacks its own tissues instead .

The Arthritis Diet: Foods To Ease Arthritis Pain
Food has a profound effect on the body and can influence how individuals feel and the severity of health symptoms that they are experiencing. This is especially true in cases of arthritis because there are many types of food for arthritis that can make joint inflammation better and worse. While there is not one specific arthritis diet plan, there are specific foods that arthritis suffers can choose to eat and choose to avoid in order to feel better on a daily basis. There are also strategies to follow to eat well for ones specific type of arthritis that can help ease arthritis pain.
This article will discuss the ideal arthritis diet, including the very best anti-inflammatory foods and foods to avoid with arthritis.
Foods That May Relieve Arthritis Pain
As noted above, a diet that includes foods high in antioxidants may reduce joint pain by helping to rid the body of free radicals. The following is a partial list of antioxidant-rich foods:
- Berries blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries
- Cherries tart cherries appear to be most effective for fighting inflammation
- Citrus fruits
- Dark chocolate go for at least 70% cacao, and watch the sugar content
- Spices such as ginger, paprika and turmeric

What Is The Treatment For Septic Arthritis
Treatment of septic arthritis includes antibiotic therapy and drainage of the infected joint fluid from the joint .
Optimally, antibiotics are given immediately. Often, health care professionals administer intravenous antibiotics in a hospital setting. The choice of antibiotics can be guided by the results of the culture of joint fluid. Until those results are known, empiric antibiotics are chosen to cover a wider range of possible infectious agents. Sometimes, combinations of antibiotics are given. Antibiotics may be required for four to six weeks.
Drainage is essential for rapid clearing of the infection. Drainage of a joint effusion can be done by regular aspirations with a needle and syringe, often daily early on, or via surgical procedures. Arthroscopy can be used to irrigate the joint and remove infected joint lining tissue. If adequate drainage cannot be accomplished with joint aspirations or arthroscopy, open joint surgery is used to drain the joint. After arthroscopy or open joint surgery, drains are sometimes left in place to drain excess fluid that can accumulate after the procedure.
Autoimmune Patients Take Note
Although the results of laboratory studies described above have been promising, research investigating the anti-inflammatory effects of beans in people suffering from inflammatory diseases is scanty. What’s more, some experts have hypothesized that beans might even cause rather than curb inflammation in people who suffer from an autoimmune disease. This theory is based, to a large extent, on the high levels of saponins and lectins found in dry beans.
Saponins and lectins are anti-nutrients that protect plants against insect and microbe attacks by dissolving the cell membranes of these potential predators. But some experts believe that the types of saponins and lectins found in beans may be harmful not only to insects and microbes but also to people due to their ability to interact with the cells that line the gut. This may be particularly problematic for autoimmune patients many of whom are believed to suffer from, or have an increased risk of developing, a condition called “leaky gut”. In healthy people, the gut lining acts as a barrier that undigested and foreign material from leaking into the bloodstream, but in people with a leaky gut, the lining of the gut wall is damaged and these unwanted substances can escape into the bloodstream where they can agitate the immune system and trigger inflammatory reactions.

Is lemon juice good for arthritis, or is lemon juice bad for arthritis? Well, its actually both. In this video, I want to explain why lemon juice is both good and bad for arthritis.
Gout arthritis High levels of uric acid.
Gout symptoms get better when you make things alkaline. When you consume lemon juice and its metabolized, it turns into an alkaline substance. This makes lemon juice a good remedy for gout. But, the lemon juice remedy for gout is really just a quick fix. It will help you feel better, but you still need to work on the real cause of the issue.
Osteoarthritis Calcium deposits within the joints.
Osteoarthritis symptoms get worse when things are more alkaline. When you alkalize the body, you can create a flare-up of osteoarthritis. With osteoarthritis, you need to acidify the body by taking apple cider vinegar.
As a side note, when doing intermittent fasting, your body will produce more uric acid. If youre sensitive to uric acid, it may cause a flare-up of gout. In this case, you can take lemon juice or potassium citrate to alkalize the body.
