Is Lidocaine Good For Arthritis

What Tips Should I Know About Using Lidocaine Patches

Workvie Lidocaine Roll On Cream Review | Pain Relief | Pain Reliever

While lidocaine patches are generally well tolerated and safe, its important to use the patches according to your providers instructions or the instructions on the box.

The following tips help make sure youre using your lidocaine patches properly and safely. They can help you get the most out of the medication, prevent too much lidocaine from being absorbed into your body, and prevent serious side effects from happening.

  • Wash your hands after handling. Its possible for some lidocaine to get on your fingers while applying a patch or removing it from your skin. Washing your hands helps prevent you from getting lidocaine into your eyes or mouth.

  • Make sure youre aware of how many patches you can use at one time. Only wear one patch at a time for OTC lidocaine patches. And before you put on a new patch, remember to take off the old one first. For prescription lidocaine patches, follow your healthcare providers directions. They may tell you to wear up to three patches at the same time. Dont apply more than instructed on your prescription label.

  • Be aware of how long you can wear your lidocaine patches each day. Some OTC lidocaine patches can be worn for up to 8 hours. Other OTC patches can be worn for up to 12 hours in one day. You should only wear prescription lidocaine patches for 12 hours during a 24-hour period. This means you should take a 12-hour break before applying a new patch.

  • Best For After Exercising: Sportscreme Deep Penetrating Pain Relieving Rub

    • Fragranced

    • Extra-thick consistency, so it takes longer to rub in

Although you can certainly use Sportscreme in situations where exercise or movement wasnt involved, it is a good option for those with arthritis who may have overdone it on a particular day with walking, housework, gardening, or other activities. Or, if youre doing something that you anticipate will leave you sore, you can also use the product ahead of time. Sportscremes clean fresh scent is polarizing: some find it pleasant, while others would prefer a product with no scent at all.

Active Ingredients: Trolamine salicylate | Dose: Apply generously to the affected area. Massage into painful areas until thoroughly absorbed into skin. Repeat as necessary, but not more than four times daily. | Uses: Temporary relief of minor aches and pains

Pain In One Area Vs Pain In Many Areas

Lidocaine patches only work around the area where youve placed them. So the patches can be used if you have pain in a specific area of your body.

If your whole body hurts or if it hurts in multiple areas, you might need something else that can help relieve pain all throughout your body. Examples of these medications include acetaminophen or oral nerve pain medications, like gabapentin or duloxetine .

I use it on my back and for me it helps enough for my pain meds to work. Sometimes the pain is real bad and my pain meds don’t help enough so I put this on my back. I think it would help with your knees.

I also use the lidocaine 5% ointment for the same reasons also but I found this better tropical prescription medication called Voltaren gel. It’s a NSAID gel that helps with arthritis and some of the PN pain. I have severe pain in my hips that wakes me up at night and before I started using this Voltaren gel I was sleeping on Icepacks but they only lasted a few hours before they melted. So I still use the Icepacks and now I use this new gel and I can sleep longer before the Icepacks and the gel wears off. I normally go to bed around 9:00 pm and I would wake up by 2:30 am in severe pain and I would have to take the some pain medications and wait tell it kicks in. Now I can sleep to around 6:00 am and I rub the Voltaren gel on my hips and take my morning medications which includes pain medications and go back to sleep within ten minutes instead of 45 minutes to an hour.

How Is Voltaren Different From Aleve

Voltaren works similarly to oral NSAIDs like naproxen by temporarily blocking the production of pain-signaling chemicals called prostaglandins. However, when taking a pill, the medication is distributed to the site of pain through the bloodstream. Voltaren works by penetrating deep through your skin to deliver medicine at the site of arthritis pain.

Voltaren is an alternative to oral analgesics such as Aleve. It targets pain directly at the source to deliver nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine for powerful arthritis pain relief. Its the first full prescription strength nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory gel now available over the counter. And, Voltaren is FDA approved to be used 2x longer than Aleve*

*21 days vs 10 days for Aleve before consulting a doctor.

Traditional thinking is that the pain-relieving mechanism of action of menthol the active ingredient in Biofreeze Pain Reliever results from a counter-irritant effect. Simply put, a counter-irritant has an effect of overriding noxious pain signals traveling to the brain through a process modulated between pain-transmitting and non-pain transmitting neurons. This process, known as Gate Control or gating, was first described by Melzak and Wall.

What Should I Know About Storage And Disposal Of This Medication

Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture . Do not store patches and topical systems outside the sealed envelope. Fold used patches or topical systems so that the adhesive side sticks to itself and then safely discard into trash and where children and pets cannot get to them.

Heat Therapy Helps Relax Stiff Joints

Learn different ways to ease joint pain using warm water or a hot compress.

Looking for a natural way to get your joints moving in the morning? Close the medicine cabinet and try an age-old remedy that has stood the test of time: heat.

If you have a chronic condition like fibromyalgia, arthritis, or lower back pain, try heating things up. Soaking in warm water or applying a heated compress is one of the oldest, cheapest, and safest forms of complementary therapy. Research has shown that heat treatments can loosen stiff joints and relieve achy muscles.

Here is how it works. When you warm up a sore joint or tired muscle, your blood vessels get bigger. This allows more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to be delivered to the injured tissues. Better circulation means more relaxation for those stiff muscles and joints.

Stay away from heat if you have an acute injury or are having a flare. If you have a sudden onset of swelling and redness from overdoing it yesterday, you are better off using cold treatments for a few days. Cold has the opposite effect of heat: it reduces blood flow and decreases inflammation.

Here are a few simple ways to heat up your daily routine.
