Learn when its safe and unsafe to see a chiropractor to ease joint pain and stiffness.
If youve had back pain or a stiff neck, whether from arthritis or an injury, youve likely considered seeing a chiropractor. While its true that chiropractors manipulate or adjust the spine to improve pain and mobility, the benefits may extend beyond the back and neck. By using varying degrees of force in an effort to adjust misaligned joints, chiropractors try to improve the relationship between the spine and nervous system, which they believe may affect the function of all the organs and systems in the body.
We are certainly the front-line providers for back pain, but were also primary-care professionals who look at and evaluate the whole body, says Ron Boesch, a chiropractor and professor and director of clinics at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Chiropractic treatment continues to grow in mainstream medicine. In a 2015 Gallup poll commissioned by the college, 60% of the more than 5,400 people polled believed chiropractic care is an effective treatment for neck and back pain. But what should you expect from a chiropractor visit and is it safe for arthritis?

What Is Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic Arthritis is an autoimmune condition experienced by people with psoriasis. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by scaly patches on the body such as the elbow, neck, and scalp.
PsA is the result of the immune systems reaction to this disease. It triggers inflammation in the joints, which makes them stiff, swollen, and painful. There is still no established cure for psoriasis. However, there are accessible treatments to manage its symptoms, including PsA.
There are safe and effective complementary treatments PsA patients can incorporate with their lifestyle to help cope with psoriasis. One treatment that helps alleviate the effects of psoriasis is chiropractic therapy.

What Is Cervical Arthritis
The spine is made up of a chain of small bones that are called vertebrae. These vertebrae are separated from each other by small discs. The discs act as cushions between the vertebrae, allowing nerves to leave the spine with ease while also preventing the vertebrae from rubbing against each other.
When someone has cervical arthritis, which is also called cervical spondylosis, there are age-related changes that lead to degeneration in the bones, discs, and joints of the upper portion of the spinal column. Specifically, cervical arthritis targets the first few vertebrae at the top of the back. This leads to pain, inflammation, and stiffness in the neck.

In fact, there are over 150 chiropractic techniques to adjust the joints, spine, and other muscles, all developed to restore function naturally and provide lasting relief without the use of medications. Still not convinced? What Are The Symptoms Of Cervical Arthritis
Similar to other medical conditions, the symptoms of cervical arthritis can vary from person to person. In general, the symptoms of cervical arthritis will get worse as people get older, particularly if they are not receiving regular care. Some of the most common symptoms of cervical arthritis include:
- Neck pain and discomfort that might be worse in the morning depending on someones sleep position
- Neck stiffness that makes it hard for someone to move the head from side to side
- Pain in the upper back that might impact shoulder mobility or sensation
- Pain that is present between the shoulder blades
- Headaches that are centered in the back of the head
- Reduce neck flexibility
Depending on the severity of someones symptoms, individuals with cervical arthritis might even notice swelling at the site of inflamed vertebrae from time to time.
How Do I Start
Everyone has different levels of fitness depending on the lifestyle they lead. Which joints does your arthritis affect? Choose a selection of exercises that will work these joints. Consider what you can currently do and decide on what you would like to be able to do. You can then set yourself goals to work towards, for example you may aim to participate in a local charity walk, learn to swim or be able to walk to the local shop.

What Happens In An Arthritic Joint
Osteoarthritis affects a large number of Australians and is the most prevalent type of arthritis that we see in our chiropractic office. Patients suffering from Osteoarthritic pain will often get excellent benefits from having regular chiropractic care.
In a normal healthy joint, the bone surfaces are covered with cartilage, with a plentiful supply of synovial fluid contained in the joint capsule. This fluid lubricates the joint and contains all the nutrients that the joint needs.
With osteoarthritis the joint spaces become narrower due to stress and load, and the cartilage starts to wear down. Eventually, the joint surfaces start to rub against one another causing pain, inflammation and swelling.
Over an extended period, the joint can become damaged and deformed. Unfortunately, this cannot be seen by the naked eye, an X-ray or an MRI will need to be carried out to determine the severity of the damage. If your spine is affected, it can lead to lower back pain, neck pain, swelling, muscle tightness and radiating pain in your arms and legs. The discs in the spine will become tougher, more fibrous and will be less able to act as a shock absorber.
This damage will, over time, put more stress on the spinal joints, worsening the arthritis. These symptoms are not part of the normal ageing process and can be prevented if treated early enough in its progression.
Does Chiropractic Care Really Work For Arthritis Pain
Jun 14, 2021 | Arthritis
Chiropractic care: the philosophy behind it is simple and intuitive. When the proper function is restored to your body, the body can then heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. Imagine being able to enjoy life again, without medication. Whats the secret behind chiropractic care?
Theres really no secret chiropractic care focuses on your unique aches and pains, your body, and seeks to restore optimal performance. Just like a zipper thats off its track, if the structure of a joint isnt right, then it wont be able to work as designed. Take arthritis as an example. When arthritis strikes, your joints are inflamed and/or out of alignment and cannot work optimally. Chiropractic care seeks to maximize joint function by restoring alignment and reducing the cause of your inflammation.
Chiropractic care isnt a one-size-fits-all solution treatment is tailored to the type of arthritis you have. How does it work and what should you expect?

Designed To Reduce Inflammation
With RA typically the worst symptoms are the result of inflammation. Chiropractic treatment may not be able to change the way your immune system is malfunctioning, but it can do a lot to help the painful areas become less inflamed.
The treatment you get from your chiropractor will ensure that your joints are moving as properly as possible given your condition. By putting the body back in alignment, chiropractic improves the way the nervous system operates and lessens inflammation.
Chiropractic For Knee Pain

However, Chiropractic Treatment does serve as a natural, non-invasive resource for managing the symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Benefits Of Acupuncture With Psoriatic Arthritis
After looking at what acupuncture is, I was basically correct in seeing all these needles going into different parts of my body. Im not convinced that I would consider this as a pain option. The reason I say this is because there is so much more to look at. If you are considering this option, make sure you research the doctor and check his or her references. Make sure your insurance company would pay for any treatments. I know some insurance companies pay while some do not. This is very important to know. With so many people in pain maybe this could be the new method of helping them.

With these two sorts of arthritis chiropractic treatment leads to relief of pain and other symptoms and improvement of chest expansion and spinal elasticity.
